Q: We are here in France a group of Muslims, and we have a mosque where we pray all the times except for the Friday prayer due to the time in the winter season. We have no problem; the midday prayer is at one o'clock and we are at home. But starting from March, the French government
adds an hour, which they call daylight saving time, and the midday prayer becomes at two o'clock after the sun has passed its zenith. We are at work and cannot manage to pray the Friday prayer. So, is it possible for us to pray the Friday prayer one hour early, before its time, in the summer season, i.e., at one o'clock after the sun has passed its zenith like in the winter season, or what is the solution? And is the Friday prayer permissible with four men?
A: First: It is obligatory for you to pray the Friday prayer after the sun has passed its zenith. If your work circumstances allow you to pray at the beginning of the time, that is good. Otherwise, it is permissible to perform the prayer in the middle of its time or at the end of it. As for delaying it until its time has passed, that is not permissible; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:103] , and other evidence. Second: The correct opinion among the scholars is that a specific number greater than three is not a condition for the obligation of the Friday prayer, due to the lack of evidence for that. Accordingly, if you are four men, then establish the Friday prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
