Q: Most of the workers who work in the agriculture and irrigation department, when their clothes are sprayed with irrigation water, which is white water, but it is not pure—it is impure—because it requires several stages to become pure, and it is difficult for them to change their clothes, so they pray in this state for more than six years, and they say: Allah knows that we cannot do otherwise.
A: It is obligatory for the workers and others to pray in clothes that are pure from impurity; because one of the conditions for the validity of the prayer is purity from ritual impurity and from impurity in the body, the garment, and the place of prayer; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his sandals during the prayer when he learned that there was impurity in them. So it is obligatory for these workers to purify their clothes for prayer in the future, and as for the past years, they are excused due to ignorance.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
