Placing images of living beings in the mosque

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20323 )
Q: The Qur'an Memorization Society in the city of Jubail Industrial in the Eastern Region has printed an annual calendar that includes the times of the prayers throughout the months of the year. It was placed on a large sheet, which is attached to the question. This sheet contains images of the Sacred House and the Maqam, some old and some new, as indicated under each image. These images contain groups of people circumambulating the House. Please rule for us, may you be rewarded: Is it permissible to hang such images and sheets inside mosques and their corridors ? Since some of the imams in our city of Jubail Industrial have hung them inside the mosque, believing that this is permissible. Please guide us, may Allah reward you with the best reward for Islam and the Muslims.
A: Placing these calendars in mosques is not permissible, because they contain images of living beings, which are forbidden, and because they distract the worshippers during their prayer by looking at them and contemplating their colors and shapes. This is contrary to the purpose of prayer, which is humility and gathering the heart before Allah the Exalted.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
