Burying the deceased in the mosque
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 15653 )
Q 1: We have a large mosque where we perform most of the obligatory prayers, and it is the closest to us. After a period of time, I discovered that there is a grave in the ground floor for the owner of this mosque, prepared for him so that when he dies, they will bury him there. I hope you will inform me of the ruling on praying in this mosque, along with the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah, and the ruling on the one who preaches the sermon in it?
A 1: It is not permissible to bury the deceased in the mosque; due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of that, and his informing that that is the practice of the Jews and the Christians , and his cursing them for that; warning against what they did. Based on this, it is not permissible to pray in mosques built over graves, and due to his prohibition (peace and blessings be upon him) of taking graves as mosques; because that is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah). As for the mosque in question, the prayer in it is valid before anyone is buried in it. It is obligatory not to bury anyone in it, nor in any other mosque. When someone is buried in it, prayer in it becomes forbidden; as mentioned above, until
the grave is dug up and the deceased is removed from the mosque. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
