Q: While reading an article about Arabic calligraphy written by one of the Moroccan artists, my attention was drawn to two hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): “ Indeed, the calligraphers and the tailors eat from the depths of their eyes .” “ Adhere to good handwriting, for it is one of the keys to sustenance .” So I hastened to write to you asking about the authenticity of these two hadiths.
A: The hadith: “Adhere to good handwriting, for it is one of the keys to sustenance” is a fabricated hadith, as stated by al-Sighani . As for the wording: “Indeed, the calligraphers and the tailors eat from the depths of their eyes,” it is not a hadith to our knowledge. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
