Q: How can we reconcile the noble Prophetic hadith—in any case, I do not know its degree of authenticity—("Disagreement is mercy...") with the noble verse:[Al-Anfal 8:46] ? May Allah reward you with good.
A : The hadith is not authentic. Disagreement is a trial and a test from Allah for His servants, and it is not mercy in an absolute sense, as Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:[Hud 11:7] ,
And He, the Exalted, said:[Al-Kahf 18:7] . So whoever strives in seeking the truth in matters of disagreement and is qualified for independent legal reasoning through his knowledge and insight, if he hits the mark, he has two rewards, and if he errs, he has one reward. As for whoever speaks in matters of disagreement without knowledge and follows his desires therein, he is sinful and not rewarded. In this way, the evidence from the Book, the Sunnah, and the statements of the scholars are reconciled. And Allah, the Exalted, said: [Hud 11:118-119] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1326Sahih (Darussalam) It is agreed upon as authentic. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed.
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلاbut they will not cease to differ. (119) Except whom your Lord has given mercy
وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ (118) إِلا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَWhen the judge passes a judgement in which he strived and was correct, then he receives two rewards. And when he judges and is mistaken, then he receives one
