Q: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says in His Noble Book:[Al-Kahf 18:46] . Why did He mention wealth first and not children? What is the wisdom in that?
A: The precedence of wealth over children in the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:[Al-Kahf 18:46] despite the fact that children are dearer to most people, is due to its deep-rooted nature in adornment and support, and its universality regarding individuals and times. It is an adornment and support for everyone, whether they have sons or daughters, at all times and moments.
As for children, their adornment and support are only for those who have reached fatherhood. Also, wealth is the basis for the survival of people, while children are for the preservation of the species. The need for wealth is more urgent than the need for children. It is more capable of existence than they are. It is an adornment without them, but not vice versa; for one who has children but no wealth is in the tightest of circumstances. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
