Q 2: We seek from your eminence the authenticity and explanation of this hadith : from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 495 So let him look. It was narrated by al-Bukhari in (Al-Adab al-Mufrad), its number in (Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad 381), and it was authenticated by al-Albani , and Fu'ad 'Abd al-Baqi said: It is not in any of the six books. Do we take from this hadith that whoever is not afflicted by these diseases is among the people of the Fire? Please clarify for us, may Allah bless you.
A: This hadith was narrated by other than al-Bukhari in (Al-Adab al-Mufrad), Imam Ahmad in (Al-Musnad 2\332 and 366), and al-Nasa'i in (Al-Sunan al-Kubra 4\353 with number (7491)), and Ibn Hibban in (His Sahih 7\178 with number 2916), and Abu Ya'la in (Al-Musnad 11\432 with number 6556), and al-Hakim in (Al-Mustadrak 1\347) and al-Bazzar as in (Kashf al-Astar 1\369
with number 369), and Hammad ibn al-Sari in the book (Al-Zuhd 1\246 with number 426), and the hadith was authenticated by Ibn Hibban . And al-Hakim said: (This hadith is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim and they did not narrate it) And al-Haythami said in (Majma' al-Zawa'id 2\ 294: (Its chain is good). And al-Hafiz Ibn Hibban said after narrating this hadith in (His Sahih) clarifying what is intended from it: (His saying, peace and blessings be upon him:Sahih Ibn Hibban 11:26 The word 'information' is about something intended to be a deterrent from leaning towards that thing, and a lack of patience against its opposite. That is because Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made illnesses in this world and sorrows and griefs a cause for expiating the sins of the Muslims. So he, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to inform his Ummah that a person hardly escapes committing what Allah has forbidden in his days and nights, and the Fire becoming obligatory for him thereby if He does not bestow upon him forgiveness. So it is as if every person is held responsible for what his hands have earned, and illnesses expiate some of it for him in this world, not that whoever is spared in this world is among the people of the Fire). And Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, explaining the causes by which Allah averts punishment from the believers: (And when a believer commits an evil deed, its punishment is averted from him by ten causes: that he repents and Allah accepts his repentance, for the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin; or he seeks forgiveness and Allah forgives him; or he does good deeds that erase it, for good deeds remove evil deeds; or his believing brothers pray for him and seek forgiveness for him while he is alive
and dead; or they dedicate to him some of the reward of their deeds by which Allah intercedes for him; or his Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, intercedes for him; or Allah the Exalted tests him in this world with calamities that expiate for him; or He tests him in the barzakh with the shock that expiates for him; or He tests him in the gathering places of the Day of Resurrection with some of its terrors that expiate for him; or the Most Merciful of the merciful ones has mercy on him. So whoever these ten miss, let him not blame but himself) (Majmu' al-Fatawa 10\45). And al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab said in the course of his explanation of the hadith: The text of which is: (So if the fever is from the Fire, then in these previous hadiths it is the believer's share of the Fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection. And the meaning, and Allah knows best what He intends: that the fever in this world expiates the sins of the believer and purifies him thereby until he meets Allah without sin, so he meets Him pure and purified from impurity, making him fit to be a neighbor in His abode of honor, the abode of peace, and he does not need purification. And this is regarding the believer who realized faith and had no sins except what the fever expiates and purifies. And the texts have been mass-transmitted from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the expiation of sins by illnesses and ailments, and they are very numerous, too long to mention - until he said -: And
the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made the one whom fever and headache do not afflict among the people of the Fire, making that one of the signs of the people of the Fire, and its opposite one of the signs of the believers. So in Al-Musnad and al-Nasa'i from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to a Bedouin: Has 'Umm Muldam taken you? The hadith. And with what has preceded, the difficulty understood from the apparent meaning of the hadith is removed, and the ruling of entering the Fire for this man is because he commits sins that warrant the Fire and are not expiated for him in this world, and that is by Allah the Exalted revealing to His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the unseen. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
Q 2: We seek from your eminence the authenticity and explanation of this hadith : from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
A bedouin came and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked, 'Has Umm Mildam (fever) got hold of you?' 'What is Umm Mildam?' he asked. He said, 'The heat between the skin and the flesh.' The bedouin said, 'No.' He asked, 'Have you got a headache?' 'What is headache?' the man asked. He replied, 'A wind which appears in the head and beats the veins.' 'No,' he said, When he stood up, he said, 'Whoever wants to look at a man who is one of the people of the Fire,'

So whoever these ten miss, let him not blame but himself) (Majmu' al-Fatawa 10\45). And al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab said in the course of his explanation of the hadith:
The fever is a brand from Hell, so whatever of it strikes the believer is his share of the Fire
الحمى كير من جهنم، فما أصاب المؤمن منها كان حظه من النارthe Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made the one whom fever and headache do not afflict among the people of the Fire, making that one of the signs of the people of the Fire, and its opposite one of the signs of the believers.
