What is the thing that expiates sins?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner from the Emirates says in his second question: A person who committed some violations in his youth, and these sins are very numerous, what is the thing that expiates them after he has repented to Allah? Is repentance sufficient for that?

Answer:
Repentance is sufficient. Whoever commits something of the sins, then repents, Allah repents toward him, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Repentance wipes out what came before itالتوبة تجب ما قبلها
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.التائب من الذنب كمن لا ذنب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[An-Nur: 31], meaning: you will succeed. This indicates that whoever repents, he will succeed. He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flowيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحًا عَسَى رَبُّكُمْ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ
[At-Tahrim: 8].
So whoever repents with a sincere repentance, Allah will repent toward him, forgive him, and admit him into Paradise. But if he has rights owed to people, he must give them their rights. If the sin relates to people in their wealth, or their blood, or their honor, then he must give them their rights. If he has wealth, he gives the wealth to its owners, whether by theft or usurpation, he gives it to its owners. Or if he has a case of retaliation, he may offer himself so that they may take retaliation from him, or he gives them the blood money if they are satisfied with it.
And likewise, if he has rights owed to people, it is obligatory to perform them, giving people their rights. And likewise, regarding backbiting, if it is possible for him to seek their forgiveness, he says: "Forgive me, I backbit about you, forgive me—may Allah reward you with good." If that is not possible, he praises him with the good deeds he knows of him, with the charitable deeds he performs, he praises him with them in the gatherings where he backbit about him, and he makes du'a for him, seeks forgiveness, repents, and feels remorse.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
