The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18722 )
Q2: If major sins are not included under this virtue — meaning the expiation of sins — is it correct for someone to say: “This distinction is attained by the one who says: ‘Subhan Allahi wa bihamdih’ (Glory be to Allah and His is praise) one hundred times, and similar deeds that expiate sins. So what distinction does Hajj have, then?”
A2 : It is established in (al-Bukhari and Muslim) from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Muwatta Malik 15:23 The meaning of this is: provided one does not persist in major sins, combining the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted: [An-Nisa 4:31] the verse, and His saying, the Exalted: [Ali 'Imran 3:135-136] .
And similar to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Mishkat al-Masabih 564 And in another wording: Sunan Ibn Majah 1086Sahih (Darussalam) . So if the five daily prayers, despite being the pillar of Islam and the greatest of its pillars after the two testimonies, Jumu'ah, and Ramadan, do not expiate sins except for the one who avoids major sins, then other acts of worship are all the more so in that they do not expiate sins except for the one who avoids major sins. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.
