The questioner : The second question asks about the authenticity of this hadith and its meaning. It is narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
Whoever says there is no god but Allah will enter Paradise
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:44
Abu Dharr said: "Even if he commits zina and steals?" He said:
Even if he commits zina and steals
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 18:238
In another narration:
In defiance of Abu Dharr
Sahih Muslim 94b
.

The Shaykh : This hadith is authentic.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Its meaning is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified in this hadith that whoever realizes tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and says "there is no god but Allah" will enter Paradise, even if he commits some sins and major sins, because sins and major sins do not take one out of faith.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is the correct school of thought, the school of the people of the Sunnah and the community, that a person is a believer by his faith and an open sinner by his major sin, and he does not exit faith by major sins. So, if a man kills a soul that is forbidden to be killed without right, that is among the greatest of sins, and yet he does not become a disbeliever exiting the religion by this. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) mentioned regarding the two factions that were fighting that we should reconcile between them; we were commanded to reconcile between them, and He said:
The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers
[Al-Hujurat 49:10]
This is evidence that a person does not exit faith by committing major sins. So he enters Paradise even if he commits zina and steals, but he is deserving of punishment for this major sin. If it has a fixed punishment in this world, he is punished with it; otherwise, he is punished with it in the Hereafter, unless Allah wills, because Allah says:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills
[An-Nisa 4:48]
. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This question is from the listener Ibrahim Hasan Jar Allah al-Maliki from the al-Layth sector.
