The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 16875 )
Q 5: What are the pillars of faith with an explanation?
A 5: The pillars of faith are six: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree, both its good and its evil. Belief in Allah means having firm conviction in His lordship, His divinity, His names and attributes, and that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, is the sole one worthy of worship. Belief in the messengers means believing in their mission from Allah, believing in them, following them, and loving them, the foremost of whom is their seal, their best, and our share among them, Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib (peace and blessings be upon him). Belief in the angels means believing in their existence and that they are honored servants who carry out the commands of Allah in His creation, bring down revelation from Him to His messengers, and record the deeds of the children of Adam and preserve them.
Belief in the books means believing that they were sent down by Allah to guide creation, and that it is obligatory for those upon whom they were sent down to follow them and act according to them, the best and most complete of which is the Noble Qur'an sent down to our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Belief in the Last Day, which is the Day of Resurrection, means believing in its occurrence, the resurrection of people from their graves, and their recompense for their deeds, good for good and evil for evil. Belief in divine decree, both its good and its evil, means believing that everything that happens in this universe, whether good or evil, from the beginning of creation until the Hour, is known, decreed, and written by Allah in the Preserved Tablet, and that Allah willed it and brought it into existence at the time of its occurrence. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
