The claim that the prophets hear and see after their death

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20845 )
Q 2: O honorable Shaykh, it is said that the prophets (peace be upon them) hear and see after their death. Does this statement have any evidence? Please inform us. May Allah reward you with good.
A 2: The dead in general, including the prophets (peace be upon them), do not hear those who call them in a way that leads to acceptance and obedience. Therefore, they cannot respond to the caller or comply with what is commanded or prohibited. This is what Allah denied in His saying, the Exalted:
So indeed, you will not make the dead hearفَإِنَّكَ لاَ تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتَى
[Ar-Rum 30:52]
As for what came in (the two Sahihs) regarding the deceased when he is placed in his grave, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He hears the clatter of their sandals when they turn away from himإنه يسمع خفق نعالهم حين يولون عنه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 11:224
And what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the slain polytheists of the Day of Badr when they were dragged and thrown into the well of Badr, saying to them:
Have you found what your Lord promised true?هل وجدتم ما وعدكم ربكم حقًّا؟
Sahih al-Bukhari 4026
And he said:
They are hearing now what I sayإنهم يسمعون الآن ما أقول
And similarly, the hearing of the deceased by the two angels when he is placed
in his grave, where they ask him about his religion and his Prophet, etc., and similar to that which has come in the Shari'ah, the deceased hears it in a barzakh hearing, of which Allah knows the manner. It is not a permanent hearing for the deceased, but rather in these specific cases. And his hearing is not like his hearing in this worldly life, but it is specific to the conditions of the barzakh. No one knows the manner of that except Allah. This hearing does not result in benefit or harm to the living from the deceased, for only Allah, the Sublime, is capable of that. As for what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
If any one of you greets me, Allah returns my soul to me and I respond to the greeting.ما من أحد يسلم عليَّ إلا رد الله عليَّ روحي حتى أرد عليه السلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 2041Hasan (Al-Albani)
That is specific to him (peace and blessings be upon him). It does not result in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) benefiting or harming the living, except for the reward that comes from Allah, the Sublime, for whoever sends prayers and peace upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). One does not ask him (peace and blessings be upon him) in his grave for what is asked of him in this world, such as fulfilling needs and solving problems, because the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not ask him for that, knowing that it is not permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
