Fatwa number ( 21138 )
Q: There is a mosque in the city of al-Ta'if called Al-Ku'ah Mosque. It is said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met 'Adas there upon his return from al-Ta'if. We teachers are sometimes asked to take students on a visit to it to introduce them to this historical site. Is this permissible or not? If going there is not permissible, what is the ruling on taking students there merely to introduce them to it? And what is the ruling on one who goes there to pray two rak'ahs?
A: What is called Al-Qantrah Mosque and Al-Ku'ah Mosque in al-Ta'if : these are two mosques of religious innovation with no basis, and they have no special virtue
specific to them. No hadith or athar has been established regarding them, and what circulates among people about them is a lie with no basis. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to worship by visiting them, as is the case with innovated mosques. This is because it is not permissible to single out a mosque for visitation for the sake of worship except for the three mosques, which are: al-Masjid al-Haram , and the Prophet's Mosque (peace and blessings be upon him) in al-Madinah , and al-Masjid al-Aqsa , and al-Masjid Quba in al-Madinah al-Nabawiyyah . From this, it is known that it is not permissible to organize a student trip to visit them, due to the misguidance of the minds of the young that this entails. The obligatory duty is to protect the creeds from innovations and misguidance. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
