Deeds of righteousness that benefit the deceased

The first question of Fatwa number ( 16343 )
Q1: We are in the city of Ouargla, and when one of our people dies, his family slaughters a sheep from his estate on the second day. What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding this slaughtered animal, and does he receive any reward from it? And what is the thing by which the deceased benefits from the living?
A1: Slaughtering an animal for the deceased after his burial is a forbidden religious innovation (bid'ah); because there is no evidence for it from the Book of Allah or the Sunnah of His Messenger. Furthermore, taking it from the deceased's estate is injustice to the heirs and consuming wealth without right. The deceased does not benefit from this slaughtered animal because it is not prescribed and is from unlawful wealth. The thing by which the deceased benefits is supplication for him, charity on his behalf from lawful earnings, and performing Hajj and 'Umrah on his behalf. This is what the evidence has come with. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
