Charity on behalf of the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 501 )
Q2: What is the reward and recompense that returns to the deceased from charity given on his behalf? For example: Does charity on behalf of the deceased increase his good deeds?
A2: Charity on behalf of the deceased is among the prescribed matters, whether this charity is in the form of money or supplication. It was narrated by Muslim in al-Sahih, and al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, and the compilers of the Sunan from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).إذا مات ابن آدم انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
. This hadith indicates, by its generality, that the reward of charity reaches the deceased, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not distinguish between whether it was based on a bequest from him or without a bequest, so the hadith is general in both cases. Mentioning the son only in the supplication for the deceased has no specific implication, as evidenced by the many authentic hadiths regarding the permissibility of supplicating for the deceased, just as in praying for them and when visiting graves, so there is
no difference whether the supplication is from a close relative or a distant one. In the two Sahihs, it was narrated from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
A man said: O Messenger of Allah, my mother died and she did not leave a bequest. Will she receive a reward if I give charity on her behalf? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes.أن رجلاً قال: يا رسول الله، إن أمي ماتت ولم توص، أفلها أجر إن تصدقت عنها؟ قال صلى الله عليه وسلم: نعم
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
