Fatwa number ( 18744 )
Q: In Egypt , some committed young men, whom we consider to be of good character, recite a daily portion called "The Bond Recitation" , which is described as follows: The brother reads a verse:
Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereigntyقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ
[Ali 'Imran 3:26]
, then he pauses for a moment to visualize in his mind one of his brothers among the students of knowledge, callers, and scholars whom he loves. Then he says: "O Allah, if You know that these hearts have gathered in love for You and united in Your call, then strengthen O Allah their bond, perpetuate their affection, guide them to their paths, and expand their chests with an abundance of faith in You and beautiful reliance upon You. Keep them alive with Your knowledge and let them die as martyrs in Your cause. You are the best Master and the best Helper." They say, may Allah preserve you, that this recitation is done after the morning and evening dhikr, and they consider it to be part of the right of brotherhood in Allah. When we told them that this is a dhikr for which no text has come, and that persisting in it, especially alongside dhikr for which texts have come, falls within the scope of religious innovation, they said: This is a good dhikr, and there is no sin in it nor severing of family ties; it is in the category of a brother making du'a for his brother in his absence. We ask
information regarding the ruling on persisting in such a *wird*. May Allah reward you with good.

A: This *wird* is an innovation with no basis, so it must be abandoned. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
. Visualizing the images of absent people is not permissible, because it is a Satanic act. Satan takes the form of the person whose image they wish to visualize in order to mislead them from their religion. Therefore, this practice must be abandoned and people must be forbidden from it. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
