Fatwa No. ( 16872 )
Q: Your Eminence, there is a debate and confusion among us in Sudan and within the Salafi group itself regarding certain points. We ask Your Eminence to clarify them for us, and may Allah increase us and you in knowledge and understanding of His religion. The Muhammadian Ansar al-Sunnah Group is a group known to you. Some of the brothers have deviated from the group's line and have begun attacking it, describing it as “a group of your own kind who speak with your tongues; whoever answers them, they cast into the Fire.” This is how these brothers, may Allah guide us and them to the straight path, have described this group. They rely on the hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (the hadith of fitnah). The reasons for their distancing themselves are summarized as follows: Naming the Salafi group in Sudan the Muhammadian Ansar al-Sunnah Group is considered by them to be a religious innovation. The Ansar al-Sunnah Group is a party like other misguided parties and groups. Your Eminence, this issue has caused a split in the ranks of the Salafi da'wah, which has hindered and continues to hinder the progress of the da'wah to the oneness of Allah in a country
where the general citizens have made the Sufis their methodology. Indeed, the youth who belong to this group have taken the stance of one who is at a loss, not knowing with whom the truth lies. Indeed, the question has arisen: if the Salafi da'wah in Sudan cannot gather its few members and has split against itself, how will it gather the Muslims in all parts of the world? With full certainty, if Allah wills, that Allah will manifest the truth and destroy falsehood and the enemies of the religion.
A: The Muhammadian Ansar al-Sunnah Group in Egypt and then in Sudan is a Sunni Salafi Islamic group that calls people to Allah according to the methodology of the Prophetic Sunnah in the oneness of Allah, in worship and conduct, and it holds to loyalty and disavowal based on the Book and the Sunnah. This is what is known about them—may Allah be praised—and thus they represent the true group of Muslims in the midst of these societies that are full of various sects and creeds. Allah has benefited through them many people, including scholars, students of knowledge, and the general public. This name ( The Muhammadian Ansar al-Sunnah Group ) was adopted to distinguish them from the groups and sects that have been affected by misleading religious innovations and desires. The pledge of loyalty and disavowal is not based on this name, but rather on the Book and the Sunnah, and on love for the sake of Allah and hatred for the sake of Allah. Therefore, it is not permissible for them to disperse, nor for their word to be divided. Whoever seeks to do this or accuses them of this detestable partisanship has transgressed against them and wronged himself.
This is part of the fitnah in splitting the ranks and dividing the group of Muslims who follow the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We advise you and ourselves to fear Allah in secret and in public, not to pay attention to those who seek to divide the word, and to strive to acquire beneficial knowledge and spread it among people, especially the oneness of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in His worship and in His names and attributes, and to warn against associating partners with Allah and the misguided paths. May Allah keep us and you firm upon Islam. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
