Slaughtering a sheep on behalf of the wife to ward off the evil eye
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 21437 )
Q 2: They also have a custom they practice when any one of them gets married, or the bride's guardian may order it, where they obligate themselves to slaughter a sheep every year, considering it a charity for Allah on behalf of the wife
and the children, believing that it protects them from envy, diseases, and calamities. They vow it to Allah and perform it every year, calling it (al-Ruzbah). When slaughtering, they mention the name of Allah over it. Some people doubt that delaying it causes them diseases and calamities, while others are fully certain that only Allah brings diseases, but he has taken a vow upon himself. What is the ruling on their practice, O honorable Shaykh, and what is obligatory upon them? May Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit Islam and the Muslims through you.
A 2: Slaughtering a sheep every year after marriage, believing that it protects them from envy, diseases, and calamities, is a forbidden act and a false belief. Even if it is called charity, it is not permissible, and it is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is obligatory to abandon it, repent from it, and rely solely on Allah, for He alone (Glorified and Exalted is He) averts harm and brings good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
