If one vows to slaughter a sheep for Allah, is it permissible for him to eat from it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He vowed to slaughter a sheep for Allah; is it permissible for him to eat from it?

The Shaykh : And what is the reason for the vow?

The questioner : If Allah heals him.

The Shaykh : He does not eat from it. If a person makes a vow to Allah in return for a blessing or the removal of a calamity, he does not eat from it, because it is gratitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for this blessing. For example, if he says, "If Allah gives me a male child, I have a vow to slaughter a sheep," we say: if this happens, slaughter a sheep and give it in charity.

The questioner : Does he slaughter another sheep, having already eaten from the first one?

The Shaykh : I say: does he slaughter another sheep, having already eaten from the first one, meaning?

The Shaykh : He does not guarantee the amount he ate; how much did he eat in kilograms?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : Two kilograms.

The questioner : Approximately.

The Shaykh : Okay, he buys two kilograms of meat and gives it in charity, yes.
