The Meaning of the Verse: They Conceal Themselves from the People

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question from Fatwa number ( 21677 )
Q 4: Allah the Exalted says:
They conceal [their evil intentions and deeds] from the people, but they cannot conceal [them] from Allah, and He is with them [in His knowledge] when they spend the night in such as He does not accept of speechيَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلاَ يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مَعَهُمْ إِذْ يُبَيِّتُونَ مَا لاَ يَرْضَى مِنَ الْقَوْلِ
[An-Nisa 4:108]
, is concealing oneself from people when committing sins considered shirk (associating partners with Allah) in all cases? And what is the meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever is afflicted with one of these defilements—meaning sins—let him conceal himselfمن ابتلي بواحدة من هذه القاذورات -أي: المعاصي- فليستتر
? How do we reconcile the understanding by combining the verse and the hadith?

A 4: The verse was revealed regarding the hypocrites who fear people and do not fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and they only display faith as a deception and a scheme. As for the believer, it is required that he not display the sin if he is afflicted with it, and that he repent from it and not return to it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
