The Meaning of "Whoever Is Afflicted with Any of the Daughters" in the Hadith
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
... will it be general?
Answer:
It is to be taken at its apparent meaning; because being provided with daughters is a trial and a test. This is because it is the custom of people to desire males. So if he is afflicted with them, it is a matter of testing whether he will thank Allah for this blessing and whether he will treat them well. How many a daughter is better and more beneficial than a son.
So whoever is afflicted with them and treats them well and thanks Allah for that, this is among the causes of his entering Paradise and his salvation from the Fire.
And whoever denies the blessing and his character toward them is bad, and he sees that he is unlucky or wronged or such, so his condition becomes bad—may Allah protect us—and he becomes like those about whom Allah said:[An-Nahl 16:58] He hides himself from the people because of the evil of what he has been told. Will he keep it in humiliation, or bury it in the dust? Evil is what they decide. [Al-Nahl:59], we ask Allah for well-being.

And when one of them is informed of [the birth of] a female, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
