The expiation for an oath offers a choice between feeding, clothing, and freeing a slave

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19518 )
Q 2: On one day, I swore an oath and performed the expiation. I took ten bags of rice from the market, each weighing one and a half kilograms, and distributed these bags to orphans, giving each person one bag. The orphans do not receive a monthly income; rather,
they receive social security benefits at the end of each year, as well as some charity from people of good. Shaykh: 1 - Is the expiation I performed in this manner valid? 2 - If it is not valid, how should I perform it, and to whom should I give it? It is known that there is no one in our village more in need than the orphans. 3 - Which is better to perform as the expiation for an oath: fasting or feeding? 4 - Is it a condition for fasting as the expiation for an oath that the fasting be consecutive?

A 2: If the condition of the orphans is as you described in the question, then what you did is sufficient, if Allah wills, for the obligatory expiation upon you. The expiation for an oath offers a choice between feeding, clothing, and freeing a slave, and there is a sequence among these three and fasting. Fasting is not sufficient in it except for one who is unable to perform all three, and consecutiveness is not obligatory in the fasting for the expiation of an oath according to the correct opinion, but consecutiveness in it is better and more cautious. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
