A person who owes the expiation for killing and is unable to free a slave or fast: does he feed people?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The oath?

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. A person owes the expiation for killing and is unable to free a slave or fast.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Does he resort to feeding people, or is the expiation dropped from him?

The Shaykh : No, it is dropped from him. The expiation for killing is of only two types: either freeing a slave or fasting. This is because Allah the Exalted did not mention a third, and if the third were obligatory, namely feeding people, Allah would have mentioned it, just as He mentioned it in the expiation for zihar. Allah mentioned in the expiation for zihar freeing a slave, and if he does not find one, then fasting for two consecutive months, and if he is unable to do that, then feeding sixty poor people. In the expiation for killing, feeding people was not mentioned. Based on this, we say: if he is unable to free a slave and unable to fast, it is dropped from him. Yes.
