The Open Hijrah of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 10896 )
Q 4: What do you know, may you be respected, about the authenticity of the report regarding the open hijrah of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab , and his statement to the effect of: "Whoever wants his mother to be left childless, or his wife to be left a widow, let him meet me at that valley"?
A 4 : This report was mentioned by Taqi al-Din al-Fasi in Volume 6 of the book
(Al-'Aqd al-Thamin fi Tarikh al-Balad al-Amin) where he said: When 'Umar intended to migrate to al-Madinah , he girded his sword, slung his bow over his shoulder, and held a quiver of arrows in his hand. He went to the Ka'bah and the nobles of Quraysh in its courtyard, so he circumambulated seven times and prayed two rak'ahs at the Maqam. Then he approached their circle one by one, and then said: "May your faces be ugly! Whoever wants his mother to be left childless, his son to be left an orphan, and his wife to be left a widow, let him follow me behind this valley." But none of them followed him. Then he said: We have narrated this from 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), and we have narrated from him that he said: "I did not know of anyone who migrated except in secret, except for 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), for when he intended to migrate, he girded his sword and [the narrator] mentioned the report. And al-Suyuti said in (Tarikh al-Khulafa') (p. 115): Ibn 'Asakir narrated from 'Ali ... then he mentioned that report. And we do not know of a sound basis for this report. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
