Q3: Is it permissible to perform cupping to draw out corrupt blood from some of a person's veins ?
A3: It is permissible to perform cupping to draw out corrupt blood; for it is established from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Mishkat al-Masabih 4516, and in another wording: Sahih al-Bukhari 5704. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also informed that the incision of the cupping vessel is a cause of healing, and it is general, encompassing both cupping and bloodletting. It is also established from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Musnad Ahmad 1129Hasan because of corroborating evidence; this is a Da'if isnad because of the weakness of Abdul-A'la Ath-Tha'labi] (Darussalam), narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . It is also established from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): , narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . Thus, his action (peace and blessings be upon him) indicates permissibility, just as his statement does. It should be performed by an expert in the matters of cupping; so that he may cup those who need this type of treatment in the appropriate place on their body, at the appropriate time, and taking into account the patient's circumstances and conditions. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
