Is it permissible to strike one who is possessed by a jinn or to use electricity on him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Tell us what you have.

The questioner : Regarding the issue of using electricity and striking with a stick, is there any scriptural evidence that permits expelling the jinn in this manner?

The Shaykh : In my opinion, this actually has no relation to means that contain a direct prohibition or direct harm. This does not require scriptural evidence to permit it, provided that it yields only benefit. When we say that Zayd struck 'Amr, that strike is harmful, but in this case, it appears that it is not harmful.

The questioner: The patient does not feel it.

The Shaykh : It appears that it is not harmful. Therefore, as long as this strike does not harm but rather benefits, we say it is permissible, and we do not need a specific scriptural evidence indicating the permissibility of using this matter. We compare this to an example found in the Shari'ah, in two examples: one is cupping and the other is bloodletting. As you know, cupping involves making an incision in the body at a location known by the specialized cupper, because it is not in every location.

The questioner: In the vein.

The Shaykh : No, that might be the case with bloodletting. Yes, we are speaking now about cupping. Cupping does not have a specific location; rather, the location varies according to the nature of the complaint and the illness. Yes, but what I want to say on this occasion is that this incision is usually harmful, so it is not permissible for a Muslim to incise his brother, even if it is a line... Ah, let alone several incisions from which blood gushes. But this cupping, whose permissibility has been established in the Shari'ah, and even encouraged, to the point that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I did not pass by any group of angels but all of them said to me: ‘O Muhammad, you should use cupping.’ ما مررت ليلة أسري بي بملأ من الملائكة إلا قالوا مر أمتك بالحجامة
Sunan Ibn Majah 3477Da’if (Darussalam)
, we see that this cupping is a means of incision, and this incision is usually harmful. But when this usual harm turned from harm to benefit, the Lawgiver permitted this means. Always, means are not looked at through the lens of ends and objectives. Also, what is perhaps more important than cupping is bloodletting, which is cutting a vein in the body, and this can expose the person whose vein is cut to more danger than cupping. But the one who performs bloodletting is usually knowledgeable about where the site of bloodletting is, just as he is knowledgeable about where the cupping is. It is established in the Sunnah that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was cupped more than once, and in more than one location. Once he was cupped on the back of his foot (peace and blessings be upon him), and once on his shoulder, and so on. In fact, this cupping has become today part of the rejected Prophetic medicine, which Muslims do not know, let alone the disbelievers. It should be revived because it is correct Prophetic medicine, in both his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying and his action. And I remember in my youth, I was exposed to some dizziness if I was sitting and then stood up quickly; it would cause me some dizziness. So I went to a cupper there in Damascus, and he cupped me on my leg, and sometimes he cupped me between my shoulders. And I found tangible benefit in that. Until two years ago, I felt something like that dizziness with a ringing in the ear. So I asked about some cuppers here, but there was no information. Then I was referred to the blood bank, and they tested me with modern medical tests. It was said to me, and Allah knows best whether they are correct or mistaken, that the strength of your blood is twenty, which is very high, and they say the normal level is fourteen or fifteen. So they took a liter of blood from me, and indeed, that which I was feeling went away. But I do not know if I had a reaction. For a year, I have been complaining of anemia or weakness of the blood or a low blood count, because the land is inhabited, as we said, and we have a doctor here. So anemia might be one thing, and low blood volume might be another... Therefore, we must be cautious as long as the land is inhabited, meaning... (laughs)The Shaykh -

The questioner : We have a young, good, and excellent cupper in Kuwait.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The questioner : If you want or would like, shall we send him to you?

The Shaykh : The point is, I now have a reaction; the blood dropped and reached ten and a bit. And I am now undergoing many treatments without benefit, meaning they give me some capsules and so on, to raise the blood level.

The questioner : Eat all honey; honey is good and beneficial. Consume honey if you do not have diabetes.
