Fatwa number ( 20630 )
Q1: If a farmer owns livestock, sheep and cows, while he is
grazing the cows in the mountain, and a cow falls into a pit with its head: how does he slaughter this cow?

A1: What one is unable to slaughter by cutting the throat, whether due to its escape, or its falling into a pit, or a well, is slaughtered by wounding it in any part of its body, except if its head is in water or something similar that usually causes death; due to the possibility that its death is caused by that rather than by the wound,
So it was narrated from Rafi' ibn Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and a camel from the people's camels strayed, and they had no horses with them, so a man shot it with an arrow and stopped it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These animals have strays just as wild animals have strays, so do with it what was done with it in this manner.
