Q 4: Our company serves us daily meals containing forbidden food ingredients (pork fat in Florida milk and cheese) and alcohol in sweetened vinegar. More dangerous than that is the bread, which is the basis of our livelihood, containing (yeast) made from beer dregs (beer), which is forbidden to drink. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding these ingredients, and is our situation considered a dire necessity in the view of the Shari'ah or not?
A 4: It is not permissible for you to consume foods containing pork fat or drinks containing alcohol. It is obligatory for you to consume foods and drinks that do not contain any of the forbidden matters. You are able to demand that the company provide you with nothing but food that is permissible by the Shari'ah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
