The Ruling on Pig Fat

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz, to the honorable brother, the Shaykh/F. T. Zadah, may Allah increase him in beneficial knowledge and faith, amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. As for what follows:
Your noble letter, dated 5/11/1387 AH, has reached us—may Allah guide you to His path—and the question it contained was known:
Your aforementioned letter included a question about the ruling on pig fat? You mentioned that it had reached you that some scholars of the present age have permitted it.

Answer: The answer to that is: The position of the four Imams and the majority of the scholars of knowledge is: the prohibition of its fat following the prohibition of its meat. The Imam al-Qurtubi and the scholar al-Shawkani cited this as: (the consensus of the Muslim community); because if the text explicitly prohibits the more noble part, the lesser part is even more deserving of prohibition; and because the fat is a follower of the meat when mentioned generally; so the prohibition and ban cover it; and because it is connected to it by a connection of creation; so the harm obtained from it is the same as that obtained from its adjacent part, which is the meat; and because there have come in the authentic hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what indicates the prohibition of the pig in all its parts, and the Sunnah explains the Qur'an and clarifies its meaning, and no one has contradicted this in our knowledge, and even if we assume the existence of disagreement by some people, it is an anomalous disagreement contrary to the evidence and the consensus that preceded it, so it is not to be heeded.
And among what has been reported in the Sunnah regarding this is what the two Shaykhs—al-Bukhari and Muslim—narrated in the two Sahihs from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people on the Day of Conquest and said:
Allah and His Apostle made illegal the trade of alcohol, dead animals, pigs and idols.إن الله ورسوله حرم عليكم: بيع الخمر، والميتة، والخنزير، والأصنام
Sahih al-Bukhari 2236
The hadith, in which he made the pig a companion of intoxicants and carrion, and did not exclude its fat, but rather explicitly forbade its sale, just as he explicitly forbade the sale of intoxicants and carrion. This is an explicit text regarding the prohibition of it in its entirety, and there are many hadiths on this matter.
We have written an answer regarding the wisdom of the prohibition of the pig, and we will send you copies of it, along with copies of two other books on the subject for your review.
And Allah is the One to be asked to guide us all to understanding in His religion, and to be sincere to Him and His servants, and to call to Him with insight; indeed, He is Generous and Noble.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
