The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19044 )
Q 2: I have many expiations for oaths, some of which I know and some of which I do not know; because I often swear to something and then contradict it, and it has become a habit for me. So how do I expiate for them, even though there are many?
A 2: The Muslim is required to pay attention to the matter of oaths, and that is by not swearing often. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:224] , so one should not swear except when there is a need for it, and he must preserve his oath by paying the expiation if he intends to go against what he swore to; because of the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: , and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih al-Bukhari 6623 narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim in their (Sahihayn), and this is the wording of al-Bukhari, and it was also narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i and al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah and Imam Ahmad . When oaths are numerous, if they are about one single thing, one expiation suffices for them if he has not already expiated for the first one, for example if he says: "By Allah, I will not speak to so-and-so," and he repeats that many times and then speaks to him. And if the type of thing sworn about is varied, for example if he says: "By Allah, I will not speak to so-and-so" and then speaks to him, "By Allah, I will not travel to such-and-such" and then travels... and so on, then each oath has its own expiation. And you must be cautious with yourself by paying the expiation with what you are most confident will clear your obligation.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

وَلاَ تَجْعَلُوا اللَّهَ عُرْضَةً لأَيْمَانِكُمْAnd keep your oaths
وَاحْفَظُوا أَيْمَانَكُمْBy Allah, Allah willing, if I ever take an oath to do something and then I find something else than the first, I will make expiation for my oath and do the thing which is better (or do something which is better and give the expiation for my oath).
إني والله إن شاء الله لا أحلف على يمين فأرى غيرها خيرًا منها إلا كفرت عن يميني وأتيت الذي هو خير، أو أتيت الذي هو خير وكفرت عن يمينيAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
