Q: What is the ruling in Islam for one who swears an oath that is contradicted by another oath in
the same time, for example: I swear that I will go to a certain place, then I swear another oath that I will not go to it, so what is the ruling in Islam regarding this?
A: It is obligatory for one who swears two contradictory oaths to fulfill one of them and break the other, and to expiate for the one he broke with the expiation of a single oath, which is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave; if he does not find the means, he must fast for three days; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:89] the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn
