Women's jewelry inscribed with the Name of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2077 )
Q: We are attaching to your letter a gold ornament inscribed with the Name of Allah (Allah). This ornament is used by our Muslim women solely as jewelry and adornment. For some time, our brothers in the Commission for Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Vice have informed us that using this ornament is forbidden, as it is inscribed with the Name of Allah. We wish to inform you that this ornament is used only by Muslims for adornment and display, in contrast to the women of the Christians and the Jews , as the Christians wear jewelry inscribed with the cross and images of idols, and the Jews wear jewelry inscribed with the Star of David. We hope you will look into this matter.
A: Given that this ornament has the Name of the Almighty inscribed on it for the purpose of Muslim women hanging it on their chests, just as Christian women hang an ornament depicting the cross, and women of the Jews hang an ornament depicting the Star of David, and given that what contains the Name of Allah may be hung for the sake of relying on it to ward off harm or bring about benefit, or it may be hung for other reasons, and its hanging may lead to its being disrespected, such as sleeping on it or taking it into places where it is disliked to enter with something containing the words of Allah, or
inscribed with the Name of Allah, the Committee holds that it is not permissible to use this ornament inscribed with the Name of Allah, in order to avoid imitating the Christians and the Jews , whom Muslims are forbidden to imitate, to block the means to harm, to preserve the Name of Allah from desecration, and due to the general prohibition against wearing amulets. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
