The Forbidden Bribery for Which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Cursed Both the Giver and the Taker

Fatwa No. ( 18640 )
Q: Five years ago, I submitted an application for a poultry project. During the submission process, people told me that there was a surveyor for projects, and if you give him money, he would mark the land as unsuitable for a project. I was indeed ignorant and did not know about some of these things. One day, the surveyor arrived, and I did not say anything to him, nor did we discuss the matter at all. I stood up and placed an amount of about 1,500 riyals in his pocket without him asking for anything. He said, "What is this money?" I replied, "Take it for the children to buy fruit." After that, he went out and surveyed
the land and wrote an approval on it, as no one had submitted an application for it before me. It is located a considerable distance from the village, about 2.5 km away, and urban development has not reached it in the desert. Now, the project is nearing completion and handover. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has honored us with His obedience, and praise be to Allah. Now, if this project is lawful for me to take possession of, then welcome; but if it is forbidden, save me from it and from the sin. May Allah guide you.
A: What you did is considered the forbidden bribery for which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed both the giver and the taker. So you must repent to Allah for what you did and not return to such an act. As for the project, if there is no injustice to anyone, no lying, and no encroachment on the properties of others, then there is no harm in it, and it is lawful for you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
