Avoiding the Assembly of Idle Talk
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14096 )
Q1: I work in a government department, and sometimes I am on night duty, or I am required to stay at the department without leaving for ten days or so. During this stay or duty, there is an assembly where the general public gather,
and there is a television in this assembly, and people smoking cigarettes and shisha. The television volume is raised with songs until they can be heard from far away, including songs, women's voices, drums, and music. I am forced to take the key to the office and sit in it, but to no avail; because I hear the songs at an annoying volume. If I advise them, they say: "It's voluntary, it's not your business," or something like that. My way of working is that I am requested by the superiors in the department present that night to write a transaction or to take a key to open an office, and I hear this and smell the cigarettes and shisha. What should I do? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good, and guide me to a method I can follow so that I can escape from this work.
A1 : You did well in distancing yourself from the assembly of idle talk and evil, and we ask Allah for steadfastness for us and for you. Continue to advise them in the best manner, with wisdom and kind words. As long as you have withdrawn from them to another place, there is nothing wrong with you. Engage in what benefits you, whether work or reading. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
