Repentance from watching obscene films

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 10807 )
Q: I am a student at a critical stage of life, namely adolescence. I am in the third year of secondary school, and I live in a house with two televisions, one in each room. I find one in front of me whenever I am at home, so I am constantly surrounded by it. I have become accustomed to watching obscene foreign films on this device, to the point that I am no longer satisfied with just watching them at home; I have also become accustomed going to the cinema to watch many of these films and the scenes shown there that do not appear on the television. Although I perform the prayers at their times, in congregation with the Muslims in the mosque, and I read the Book of Allah and many religious books, I feel regret when I watch such films and I resolve to repent, but as soon as I see an advertisement for one of the films, I rush to watch it again. I ask you, may Allah reward you, to pay attention to my letter and respond quickly, guiding me to the right path that will keep me away from this bad habit, which many Muslim youths have become accustomed to in this era. .
A : If the reality of your situation is as you have described, it is obligatory for you to be sincere with Allah in your repentance from what you have been afflicted with, namely looking at the television and following obscene films, in order to protect yourself from the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and to preserve your time, so that you can fulfill your obligations to your Lord, carry out your duties to your family, and study what brings you benefit and general good in your religion and worldly life, from beneficial knowledge and good deeds. Seek help in this from Allah, then from the company of the righteous. Whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect. Whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him. Praise Allah for having guided you to perform the prayers in congregation in the mosque, for that is good. However, it is not sufficient for a student to merely perform that obligation, for the requirements of Islam and life are many. We fear for you that the evil you have described about yourself may increase and overwhelm the side of good. So fear Allah in your self, and resolve firmly to avoid the paths of amusement and the means of evil, perhaps Allah will help you against your self and make your repentance from it a sincere repentance. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
