Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet,
After greetings: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the Director of the Public Relations Department of this Presidency, accompanied by the inquiry submitted by His Excellency the Director General of the Awareness and Guidance Department of the General Presidency for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, No. (230/16), dated 15/9/1413 AH, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, No. (4901), on 16/9/1413 AH. His Excellency asked a question, the text of which is: What is the ruling on naming photography studios, and likewise some shops that sell women's clothing, "Sidi" and "Siddati"?
It is not permissible to use the terms "Sidi" (my master) and "Siddati" (my mistress) for some commercial establishments; because this includes all customers, and among them may be a disbeliever, and addressing him with that title is definitely forbidden. Among them may also be a hypocrite or an open sinner. It is authentic in the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4977Sahih (Al-Albani) narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet,
