The Disliked Vow

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14629 )
Q: I married a girl, and about a year and eight
months after our marriage, she told me that she had made a vow when she was very young, about 13 years old, that she would not marry a man who has another wife, and if she married a man who has another wife, she would fast for a year, and she did not inform her father of this before the marriage. Now she asks: Should she fast for the year or not? Given her young age when she made the vow, and now she is 18 years old and married. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

A: The vow made by the woman mentioned is a disliked vow, and she must pay the expiation for an oath to release herself from her vow. The expiation is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If she cannot find the means to do so, she must fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
