Fatwa No. ( 1213 )
Q: I vowed to fast for a year if I gave birth to a healthy child. The pregnancy was safe for a year, and she actually gave birth, and the child was safe for more than a year. She remembers that she is unable to fast.
A: There is no doubt that the vow of obedience is a form of worship, and Allah the Exalted has praised those who fulfill it, saying:[Al-Insan 76:7] . It is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)Mishkat al-Masabih 3437 . Since the questioner mentioned that she vowed to fast for a year, and fasting for a continuous year is of the category of fasting for a lifetime, and fasting for a lifetime is disliked; because it is established in (Sahih) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: . And there is no doubt that disliked worship is prohibited, so there is no fulfillment of a vow with it. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "If one vows a disliked worship, such as standing in prayer all night, or fasting all day, the fulfillment of this vow is not obligatory." Accordingly, the questioner is required to pay the expiation for an oath: feeding ten poor people, each poor person receiving half a sa' of dates or other staple food of the country, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If she cannot do so, then fasting for three consecutive days.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًاWhoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.
من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصهa man took a vow to slaughter camels at Buwana and came and told him. God’s Messenger asked whether the place contained any idol worshipped in pre-Islamic times and was told that it did not. He asked whether any pre-Islamic festival was observed there and was told that no such thing was observed. He then said to the man, “Fulfil your vow, for a vow to do an act of disobedience to God must not be fulfilled, neither must one to do something over which a human being has no control.”
Whoever fasts the whole year has neither fasted nor broken his fast.
من صام الدهر فلا صام ولا أفطرAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
