Q2: My father is a harsh man toward me, and he does not give me even clothes except after causing me distress, so I disobey him. What is the ruling on this?
A2: It is forbidden for you to disobey your father. Allah the Exalted said:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatmentوَقَضَى رَبُّكَ أَلا تَعْبُدُوا إِلا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا
[Al-Isra 17:23]
The verse. And when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the seven destructive sins, he included among them disobeying one's parents, saying:
The biggest of the great sins are: To join others in worship with Allah, to be undutiful to one's parentsأكـبر الكبائر: الإشراك بالله، وعقوق الوالدين
Sahih al-Bukhari 6919
... etc. It is obligatory for you to be gentle with your father and to ask him for what you need with kind words and good speech.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
