Fatwa number ( 19007 )
Q: I am a young man, 19 years old. Allah guided me to beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, and He facilitated my acquisition of them. However, a believer is not safe from trials, and my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, has tested me with a father who prevents me from arriving early at the mosque (because I aim to earn the reward of the first row) and prevents us from going to the mosque to memorize the Qur'an with its correct rules. In addition, he has brought into the home what is called satellite dishes, and by Allah (plates of sin, disbelief, and disobedience). So I try to avoid
Gathering with the family while the programs of the disbelieving, open sinners are being broadcast. My question is: Is obedience to the parents more important than obedience to Allah in this case, given His saying, the Exalted:
but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindnessوَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا
[Luqman 31:15]
Or is it that there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator?

A: If your father prevents you from mixing in some gatherings from which he fears harm for you, then he is right in that, and it is obligatory for you to obey him in avoiding them. If he prevents you from the congregational prayer in the mosque after the adhan, do not obey him in that; for there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator. As for the matter of the satellite dish in the house, you must advise your father to remove it and explain the harms it contains. If the intended result is achieved, praise be to Allah; otherwise, avoid looking at what it broadcasts and withdraw from sitting for it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
