Q: A man was suckled by my mother forty years ago for five confirmed breastfeedings. This man wants to marry my sister from my father, not from my nursing mother, but from another woman. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: The condition for nursing that creates a prohibition is that it must occur within the first two years of the child's life, and that it must be five breastfeedings or more. The definition of a breastfeed is that the child holds the breast and sucks milk; when he releases it, either to rest or to move to another breast, it is counted as one breastfeed, and so on until five breastfeedings are completed. If it is less, even by one breastfeed, it does not create a prohibition; because of His saying, the Exalted, regarding those who are prohibited:[An-Nisa 4:23], and His saying, peace and blessings be upon him, in the hadith agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim: Sunan Ibn Majah 1937Sahih (Darussalam). And Muslim narrated from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: . And from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) she said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Sunan Abi Dawud 2063Sahih (Al-Albani), narrated by Muslim . So, if his nursing from your mother was five breastfeedings as mentioned in the question, and your mother was the wife of your father during the nursing, then he becomes a son to your mother and your father through nursing, and a brother to all your father's sons and daughters from your mother or from his other wife. Therefore, it is not permissible for him to marry your sister from your father, because she is his sister through nursing from the father. However, if he was nursed by your mother while she was the wife of another man before your father married her, then there is no harm in his marrying your sister from your father, because in the situation described, he is not a son to your father, and your sister from your father is not his sister. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

يحرم من الرضاع ما يحرم من النسبTen known breastfeedings were revealed in the Qur'an that create a prohibition, so five of them were abrogated, and it became: (Five known breastfeedings create a prohibition). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away while the matter remained as such.
أنزل في القرآن عشر رضعات معلومـات يحرمن، فنسـخ من ذلـك خمـس وصـار إلى: (خمـس رضعـات معلومات يحرمن) فتوفي رسـول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم والأمر على ذلـكOne or two sucks does not make marriage unlawful
