The fourteenth and fifteenth questions from Fatwa number ( 20308 )
Q14: Those who follow the methodology of al-Makrmi say that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib is the first caliph , and they curse the allies and the Companions, and they also accuse the Mother of the Believers, A'ishah .
A14 : Numerous pieces of evidence indicate that the caliph after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him and with all the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not specify this with an explicit text, nor did he specify it with a definitive will, but he ordered what indicates this, where he ordered him to lead the people in prayer during his illness, and when the matter of the caliphate after him was mentioned to him, he (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
whereas Allah and the Faithful do not substantiate the claim of anyone but that of Abu Bakrيأبى الله والمؤمنون إلا أبا بكر
Sahih Muslim 2387
; therefore, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) pledged allegiance to him after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including among them 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and they agreed that Abu Bakr is the best of them,
and it is established in the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The best of this Ummah after its Prophet is Abu Bakr, then 'Umar, then 'Uthman, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed them in that.خير هذه الأمة بعد نبيها أبو بكر ثم عمر ثم عثمان ، ويقرهم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على ذلك
. And the reports are mass-transmitted regarding 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to say: (The best of this Ummah after its Prophet is Abu Bakr then 'Umar ), and he used to say (may Allah be pleased with him): (I will not be brought anyone who prefers me over them except that I will flog him with the punishment of the slanderer), and he did not claim for himself on any day that he is the best of the Ummah, and that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) willed the caliphate for him, and he did not say that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) wronged him and took his right, and when
Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away, he pledged allegiance to al-Siddiq a second time to confirm the first pledge and to show the people that he is with the group, and that he has nothing in his heart regarding the pledge of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them all). And when 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was stabbed, he made the matter a consultation among six of the ten promised Paradise, including among them 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he did not deny that of 'Umar neither in his lifetime nor after his death, and he did not say that he was more deserving than all of them, so how is it permissible for anyone among the people to lie about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and say that he willed for 'Ali the caliphate, and 'Ali himself did not claim that, nor did any of the Companions claim it for him, rather they agreed on the validity of the caliphate of Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman , and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) acknowledged that, and he cooperated with them all in jihad and consultation and other matters, then the Muslims agreed after the Companions on what the Companions agreed upon, so it is not permissible after this for anyone among the people, nor for any sect, whether the Shi'ah or others, to claim that 'Ali is the one willed, and that the caliphate before him is invalid, just as it is not permissible for anyone among the people to say: that the Companions wronged 'Ali and took his right, rather this is among the most false of falsehoods and among the bad suspicion of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), including among them 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him and with them all). And Allah has purified this Muhammadan Ummah and preserved it from agreeing upon
misguidance, and it is authentic from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in many hadiths that he said:
A group from my Ummah will remain upon the truth, supported, until the Hour.لا تزال طائفة من أمتي على الحق منصورة
Sahih Ibn Hibban 62:598
, so it is impossible for the Ummah to agree upon falsehood in its noblest centuries, and that is the caliphate of Abu Bakr and 'Umar and 'Uthman , and no one who believes in Allah and the Last Day says this, just as no one with the slightest insight into the ruling of Islam says it. And insulting the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) is a reprehensible act, misguidance, and opposition to Allah and His Messenger, for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has clarified in His clear Book that He is pleased with them in many places, such as His saying (Exalted is He):
And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.
[At-Tawbah 9:100]
, and He said (Exalted is He):
Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the treeلَقَدْ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ
[Al-Fath 48:18]
, so whoever dies upon insulting the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or upon accusing the Mother of the Believers, 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) - has died a disbeliever upon other than the religion of Islam; because he is a denier of Allah (Exalted is He) and of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him); because He (Exalted is He) has
praised the Companions and been pleased with them and cleared 'A'ishah of the accusation in His noble Book.
