Fatwa No. ( 18723 )
Q: In our country, Yemen , a printed book is published at the beginning of every Hijri year titled: ( The Astronomical Result of Yemen , known as the Result of Bayt al-Faqih ), by its author, the so-called Mahdi Amin . The aforementioned author has passed away, and his grandson, Ahmad Muhammad Mahdi Amin , publishes it. In this publication, thousands of copies of which are printed and distributed in all parts of Yemen , in cities and villages, it displays the horoscopes, fortunes, and futures of individuals, as well as the horoscopes of officials, Yemeni regions, and Arab countries, and what will happen in the months of the Hijri year, all for the year in which it is issued. Its author states, as in the result on page 3 of the 1417 AH edition: ( The Astronomer of Yemen looks at your horoscope, your fortune, and the future in the stars, the science of Jafar, the science of Zirja, the science of sand, etc. ). Many of the common people and semi-educated people believe in this result and take pride in it. We have attached a copy of this result for further clarification. The questions are: A - Is it permissible to author, issue, print, and publish it? B - What is the ruling on one who distributes, sells, or buys it? C - Is it permissible to read it and believe in it, or to believe in some of what is in it? And what is the response to those who argue that some of what is in it has occurred and been realized?
D - What is the ruling on the money returned from issuing, authoring, printing, publishing, distributing, or selling it?
A: It is not permissible to produce, publish, sell, or distribute this aforementioned result; because it contains false speech, disbelief, and shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It includes claiming knowledge of the unseen and what will happen in the future for countries and individuals in terms of good fortune and misfortune. This is disbelief in Allah (Mighty and Majestic); because it is a claim of sharing with Allah in the knowledge of the unseen, which no one knows except Him. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Jinn 72:26-27] the verse, and Allah the Exalted said: [An-Naml 27:65] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam) (peace and blessings be upon him). It is obligatory to destroy this result and prevent its issuance, and to punish those who issue or promote it with what they deserve according to the Shari'ah, by the authorities; to protect the creed of Muslims from shirk and disbelief, to deter the callers to falsehood, and to fulfill the obligation of enjoining good and forbidding evil.
One must restrict oneself to the well-known astronomical calculations, prayer times, times for planting seeds, and the like, which are of benefit to people and do not contradict the creed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
