Abundance of Tasbih

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19212 )
Q 2: I read that some of the Salaf used to recite thousands of tasbihat (glorifications) a day, unlike the tahmidat (praisings), tahlilat (declarations of oneness), and takbirat (magnifications).
Then I read in other books: that whoever persists in the morning and evening adhkar (remembrances) becomes one of those who remember Allah much. How is that, when the difference between the two types is clear?
Vol. 2: Dhikr is among the best forms of worship that must be directed to Allah the Exalted alone, and it is not limited to a specific number or type. Al-Nawawi said in his book (Al-Adhkar), p. 9: "Chapter: Know that the virtue of dhikr is not limited to tasbih, tahlil, tahmid, takbir, and the like, but rather every person who acts for Allah the Exalted in obedience is one who remembers Allah the Exalted. This is what Sa'id ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and other scholars said." End of quote. And Ibn Hajar said, as in (Sharh al-Mishkat): "The gatherings of dhikr are the gatherings of all other acts of obedience, and whoever said they are the gatherings of the lawful and the forbidden intended to specify the most specific types thereof." End of quote. Every Muslim should maintain the established morning and evening adhkar from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), as they are among the comprehensive words, and are therefore more deserving and more beneficial than others.[Al-Ahzab 33:35], and He said
the Exalted:[Ali 'Imran 3:191]. The scholars differed regarding the meaning of "remembering Allah much." It is stated in (Al-Adhkar) by Al-Nawawi (p. 9) that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The meaning is: they remember Allah after the prayers, in the morning and evening, and in their beds, and whenever he wakes from his sleep, and whenever he goes out or returns from his home, he remembers Allah the Exalted. And Mujahid said: One is not among those who remember Allah much, men and women, until he remembers Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down. And Ata' said: Whoever prays the five prayers with their rights is included in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Ahzab 33:35]. And it came in the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1309Sahih (Al-Albani) This is a famous hadith narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Nasa'i and Ibn
Majah in (their Sunan), and it was narrated by the Imam Ahmad in (Al-Musnad) (Vol. 3, p. 75). The Shaykh Imam Abu Amr ibn al-Salah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the amount that makes one among those who remember Allah much, men and women, and he said: If one is consistent with the transmitted adhkar, meaning: from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), established in the morning and evening in different times and conditions, night and day, and they are explained in the book: (Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah), then he is among those who remember Allah much, men and women. And Allah knows best. End of quote. And Ibn Kathir mentioned in (his Tafsir) (Vol. 3, p. 495) from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:41] that Allah the Exalted did not impose an obligation on His servants except that He set for it a known limit, and then excused those who have an excuse in the state of excuse, except for dhikr; for Allah the Exalted did not set for it a limit to which it ends, and did not excuse anyone for leaving it except one who is overcome by leaving it. He said: [Ali 'Imran 3:191] Standing, sitting, and on your sides, by night and day, and on land and sea, and in travel and residence, and in wealth and poverty, and in sickness and health, and in secret and openly, and in every state. He said
Mighty and Majestic:[Al-Ahzab 33:42] So when you do that, He and His angels will pray upon you. End of quote. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah in all his states; due to the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Bulugh al-Maram 78 It was narrated by the Imam Muslim in (his Sahih). And by this it becomes clear that "those who remember Allah much, men and women" is a description that can be applied to both types mentioned in the question, and everyone who obeys Allah the Exalted by doing His commands and avoiding His prohibitions is one who remembers Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
