Reading What Is Called the Medical Prayer

Fatwa No. ( 21172 )
Q: I have heard this supplication and I want to know its ruling. It is what they call the medical prayer, and its wording is: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the healer of hearts and their cure, and the well-being of bodies…” to the end of the supplication. They place their hand on the site of the pain in a specific order and believe that it heals. What is the ruling in Islam regarding this? I visited a sick person in Indonesia and informed him about the lawful ruqyah from the Book and the Sunnah, but he told me that he does something better, where he places his right hand on the place of pain and recites the prayer upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a specific order, and he is healed by the permission of Allah. I am asking your eminence
Is this practice correct? Knowing that they believe it heals them, and there are many people there who do this practice, so what is your guidance, may Allah guide you, and may Allah reward you with good
A: The prescribed ruqyah is by reciting the Qur’an, the Prophetic supplications, and other permissible supplications. As for restricting oneself to the prayer upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and reciting it in a specific order, we do not know any basis for that, so it is obligatory to leave that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
