The third and fourteenth questions from Fatwa No. ( 6908 )
Q3: I feel the greatness of the responsibility as a doctor and its weight on my shoulders. Can I truly be committed and avoid all sins and transgressions? I hold myself accountable every day and find that I am always wrong about something. I am afraid that if I left medicine entirely and sat in my house, my Lord would ask me about my medical knowledge: what did I do with it? Especially since my years of study cost my country and my family a great deal of money. Q14: Some say that women working as doctors is a collective obligation, while others say that due to the trials a woman may face in her work, there is no need for them to be doctors, and men should take on their role out of dire necessity. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?
They are in a state of trial in their work, so there is no need for them to be doctors and for men to take on their role out of dire necessity. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?
A3, 14: First: You must fear Allah the Exalted to the best of your ability, and exert your utmost effort in benefiting the sick, while performing what Allah has made obligatory upon you, such as prayer and others, and leaving what Allah has forbidden. As for what you are unable to do in benefiting the sick, since it is not required of you, there is no blame on you; for Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] and He the Mighty and Majestic said: [At-Taghabun 64:16] . Second: It is permissible for a woman to work in treating women, but it is not permissible for her to mix with men in the workplace.
