Q: In the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib), is it permissible to recite only Surat al-Fatihah, or is it prescribed to recite a surah or verses in them just as in the obligatory prayers?
A: It is prescribed to recite a surah or verses after Surat al-Fatihah in the two or more rak'ahs of a voluntary prayer, but this is not obligatory; the obligatory recitation is Surat al-Fatihah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
