Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16137 )
Q: Booklets are circulating containing what is called: (the Adiya recitation) and its description is as follows: One recites the surah seven times, then reads from the beginning of the surah to the words of Allah the Exalted:
and covered them, so they do not see.
[Ya-Sin 36:9]
, then says: (O Allah, You who are the Light in the secret and the Secret in creation, hide from me the eyes of onlookers, and the hearts of the envious and the wrongdoers, and protect me as You protected the soul in the body, for You are capable of all things), then reads to
the words of Allah the Exalted:
and placed me among the honored."وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ
[Ya-Sin 36:27]
, then says: (O Allah, honor me by fulfilling my need), then reads to the words of Allah the Exalted:
That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
[Al-An'am 6:96]
repeating it eleven times, then says: (O Allah, I ask You from Your abundant grace and Your vast existence to make me independent of all Your creation), then reads to the words of Allah the Exalted:
[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.
[Ya-Sin 36:58]
repeating it fourteen times, then says: (O Allah, keep us safe from the afflictions of this world) three times, then reads to the words of Allah the Exalted:
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes
[Ya-Sin 36:81]
, then says: (And Allah is capable of fulfilling my need) three times, then concludes the surah and reads the supplication whose beginning is: O band of good with the best of religions, and nothing is hidden from You regarding what has been reported about its virtue from his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): (Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Qur'an is Yasin), and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): (Yasin, when it is recited, is for him), then concludes with the surah (al-Ikhlas) and (the two protectors) and (Alam Nashrah). What is the ruling on this recitation and what do you advise us? May Allah guide you.

A: The recitation mentioned is a religious innovation (bid'ah); because it has no basis in the Book or the Sunnah, and the Rightly Guided Caliphs did not do it, nor did anyone from the Salaf of this Ummah. It is obligatory for the Muslim to do in his remembrances what has been established as prescribed (mashru') from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
