Reciting the Qur'an is a form of supplication

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 1504 )
Q 2: Is reciting the Qur'an a form of supplication?
A 2: Reciting the Qur'an, in its capacity as recitation, is not supplication in the sense of asking, but it entails supplication, in the sense of: declaring one's need for Allah and for His goodness, mercy, and good reward. Indeed, the one who recites the Qur'an for Allah with sincerity and openness asks his Lord to bestow His blessings upon him and to avert from him evil and calamity. He may pass through verses in his recitation that contain supplication, or a report of supplication, such as His saying, the Exalted:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]

And His saying, the Exalted:
(200) And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah like your [previous] remembrance of your fathers or with [much] greater remembrance. And among the people is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world," and he will have in the Hereafter no share. (201) But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (202) Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account.
[Al-Baqarah 2:200-202]
And His saying:
And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."
[Al-Hashr 59:10]
If one intends supplication along with the recitation, for the living and the dead, we hope that Allah will benefit them thereby by His grace and mercy, but from the aspect of it being supplication, not recitation of the Qur'an. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
